Analysing Mise En Scene
Look closely at the images below. THEN, below these images, read the instructions and complete the task.

Step 1: Choose THREE IMAGES from above and ANNOTATE the frames (you can copy them into a document if you like) for the different elements of mise en scene.
1. Symbols. The symbolic meaning behind anything in the frame.
2. Colour. The associated meaning of particular colours.
3. Lighting. How light is constructed to convey meaning
4. Camera. How the camera is positioned to create meaning.
5. Space within the frame. How characters and objects are positioned in the frame.
6. Props/set. The objects in the frame and the location of the action
7. Costume/Makeup. What characters are wearing, how they are wearing it and their hair and make up.
Step 2:
For each image, draw the table below in your workbook, and complete a minimum of 4 rows. You may need to look back in your workbooks to remember what DENOTATION and CONNOTATION is.

2. You can use the flash cards we created in class

For your allocated production element you must:
- include a definition of the production element (in your own words)
- include the sub elements (these are the elements that make up the production element)
- include at least 7 key FILM LANGUAGE WORDS words WITH examples from 'Psycho'
- common adjectives that you could use to describe these FILM LANGUAGE words.
